surprising meals every day.

Accommodations

Ski area Vaujany Alpe d’Huez

The mountain village of Vaujany is the gateway to an extraordinary ski area in the French Alps: Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine. Vaujany is only 2 kilometers from Chalet Solneige.

The ski slopes of Vaujany and Alpe d’Huez are perfect for both beginners and advanced skiers.

Alpe d’Huez Vaujany is one of the most famous ski areas in France. More than 250 kilometers of slopes and 87 lifts ensure an amazing holiday for everyone! One of the largest gondolas in Europe takes you from Vaujany to 2050 meters in 6 minutes. Another 4 minutes and you will arrive at 2800 meters. This provides access to the immense ski area of Alpe d’Huez. In addition to this gondola, you can also take a cabin lift to the ski area.

Skiing for all: beginners and advanced

For beginners, the smaller part of the area, “Oz-Vaujany” is most suitable. It is easily accessible and has many slopes for beginners. The Vaujany ski school offers lessons for beginners here. The Oz-Vaujany area is part of the larger ski area of Alpe d’Huez. This is ideal for families and groups of different levels of skiers. When your kids are on ski lessons in Vaujany, you can enjoy the more challenging slopes yourself, and you can easily come back to pick up the kids.

For advanced skiers, the descent of the Sarenne is a real challenge. With a length of 17 km, this is the longest black run in Europe. It is possible to ski from the Pic Blanc (3330 meters) in one go to 1100 meters. The Pic Blanc is also the starting point of the breathtaking descent via the piste “the Tunnel”. This is one of the most difficult and challenging runs of the Alps. There are also many possibilities for off-piste skiing.

Snow cannons ensure that there is always enough snow. You can ski on the higher slopes until the end of April.

If you want something other than downhill skiing, you can also go cross-country skiing or take a walk with snowshoes (rackets). Check the website of the ski station for up-to-date information about lifts and slopes.

The Vaujany ski area is also a great area for families with small children with many opportunities for hiking and sledding. Click here for: Ski passes, ski rental, ski lessons.

Espace Loisirs in Vaujany offers an indoor swimming pool, hammam, sauna, jacuzzi and fitness room. Since December 2012, Vaujany has a large underground ice rink, where you can skate for the afternoon or evening. There are regular ice hockey competitions and performances of the figure skating academy. There is a bowling alley on the top floor of the ice rink. In the shopping centre next to the ski lifts are the cinema, a museum and the library.

Ski passes, ski rental, ski lessons

We can arrange a number of things for you (in advance) so that you can start your skiing holiday without stress or responsibilities.

Ski passes

When you book accommodation at Chalet Solneige, we will discuss with you which passes are most suitable for your group/family and for your wishes. We will then advise you which passes are best to book and how to do that. There are passes for the small area of Vaujany and Oz and for the large area of Domaine des Grandes Rousses / Alpe d’Huez. You can take a look at the options on oz-vaujany.com.

We can collect the passes you have ordered at the cash register, so that they are ready for you on arrival. You can then immediately use the lifts without having to queue.

Click on the map to enlarge!

Ski rental

We work together with the ski shop Ride for Life/Skimium which is owned by locals Françoise and Thierry. They provide excellent service and are very helpful.

The company is located opposite the large gondola of Vaujany. Heated lockers are available for our guests who rent skis or snowboards, so you never have to lug skis and other equipment around.

Are the shoes not comfortable, or do you want to exchange your skis for a snowboard halfway through the week? Everything is possible; you will always be helped in a friendly and professional manner.

Ski lessons

Located in Vaujany is the excellent Ecole de Ski Francaise (ESF), where you can book classes and private lessons. We also work together with Barbara Maublanc, a private ski instructor who provides custom lessons adjusted to your level. She can also take you on a nice introductory tour through the area, or take you off-piste.

Heli-ski

For experienced skiers we can book a fantastic guided ski tour. A descent at the back of the Pic Blanc over the glacier Grand Sablat and back by helicopter.

swimming pool

Swimming pool and sports center

Done with skiing or bad weather? No worries: The Espace Loisirs of Vaujany offers you a varied range of sports facilities. For example, an indoor swimming pool, hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, bowling alleys and fitness rooms are available.

Since December 2012, Vaujany has a large underground ice rink, where you can rent skates for an afternoon of fun on the ice.

Vaujany Day Care

We can recommend the Vaujany crèche for the little ones. From 6 months to 5 years old, the children are lovingly cared for in a beautiful day-care center where they also play outside. The little ones can sleep there, and food is provided.

Because it is often busy, you must book in advance. We are happy to inform you and can help you with the reservation.

Active holidays in the French Alps

Numerous outdoor activities are possible from Chalet Solneige and Chalet Amuse.

On the Lac Verney reservoir you can rent pedal boats and canoes for a pleasant hour of paddling. You can also take a private windsurf lesson between the mountains on the beautiful clear water of the lake. For whitewater kayaking and rafting you have to drive half an hour to the valley of the Veneon or the Romanche (La Grave). There are several options and levels, do not hesitate to ask us for advice.

In the village of Oz-en-Oisans there is an adventure tree climbing park where children, but adults too, can take easy or more challenging routes via ropes, ladders and zip lines.

In Oz-en-Oisans there is also an interesting canyoning trail. You can make a nice trip under the guidance of an instructor.

Do you like horse riding? On the Col d’Ornon you can make a wonderful trip through the meadows, forests and rivers. Some experience is required.

In Vaujany there are beautiful tennis courts, which you can use for free. This is your chance to play a game with a view of the high mountains all around.

Enthusiastic golfers can enjoy the Golf International de Grenoble. The golf course seems to be challenging and again you can enjoy a beautiful view over the mountains. According to experts, the restaurant is recommended for lunch.

In our region of the Oisans there are several possibilities for “via ferrata”: mountain climbing via marked routes.

There are also several good starting points for paragliding in the area. A duo flight with an instructor is a great experience. In summer, a flight from Alpe d’Huez to Bourg d’Oisans is a great experience. In winter, le Signal near Alpe d’Huez is the starting point.

Alpe d’Huez and Bourg d’Oisans

Alpe d’Huez

Alpe d’Huez has been the final destination of many historic Tour de France stages. While the name of this town is well known, it is in fact the challenging climb of 21 bends to this town that has gained international fame.
Alpe d’Huez is a quiet town in summer, a perfect starting point for many beautiful
hikes along the lakes of the Grandes Rousses mountain range. The cable cars are operational in July and August, allowing hikers to easily reach higher altitudes to start their hikes. It is also possible to reach Alpe d’Huez with the cable car from Vaujany.

Watching the arrival of the cyclists after that difficult climb is both fun and impressive, and the view from the village is well worth the trip. In addition, the village church, built in 1969, is a beautiful example of modern architecture.

During the winter season, Alpe d’Huez is a busy and vibrant ski resort, with many shops, restaurants and bars.

Bourg d’Oisans

Bourg d’Oisans is in a way the opposite of Alpe d’Huez: quiet in winter, but lively in summer. In summer, Bourg d’Oisans is a centre of activity in the valley. Cyclists are everywhere, cafés are busy all day, and on Saturday you can find local products on the village market.
The variety of restaurants and a lovely swimming pool offer a number of fun activities in Bourg d’Oisans.
