Tour de France 2025

The Tour de France is coming to the French Alps again this year. We don’t have a finish in Alpe d’Huez unfortunately, but the caravan will pass through our valley. The 18th stage will start on 24 July in Vif, south of Grenoble, and then come through the valley to the Col du Glandon with us via Vizille and Allemond. Fantastic opportunities, then, to see the riders up close on the climb to the Col du Glandon.

Eco-friendly shower gel

Since this winter, we have a new eco-friendly shower gel at Chalet Solneige.

ETHOSA is a start-up of 2 ambitious entrepreneurs who have developed an eco-friendly shower gel. To avoid disposable flasks, and transporting lots of water (90% of ordinary shower gel), Gaëlle and Oli supply their shower gel in the form of a powder. We mix that with Vaujany water, add Ethosa essential oil, and fill the aluminium flasks for you.

A small step to help make the world more environmental-friendly.

Packages in Spring and autumn

While the Alpe d’Huez area is most popular during summer and winter, the area is a beautiful holiday destination all year round. The Oisans has great weather conditions in any season, and the views are magnificent with or without snow! At Chalet Solneige, we offer custom packages during spring and autumn to best accommodate your wishes for your holidays.

Attention to all (motor)cyclists and hikers!

A stay in the French Alps during spring or autumn is ideal for cyclists and hikers. Avoid the summer heat and business with enjoyable temperatures and quiet mountain passes. For motorcyclists, we advise tours in the Vercors with the beautiful Gorge the la Bourne and the Combe Laval. When the mountain passes are open, the Col de Galibier and the Col d’Iseran are also definitely worth a visit.

Hikers will enjoy the beautiful mountains with an abundance of wildflowers in spring, or the beautiful autumn colours of the forests in September or October. There is a great variety of trails and spectacular hikes in the area. Depending on your experience, preference or condition we can offer advice on the best routes. Of course, a packed lunch is available on demand.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for prices and availability.

Special custom made holiday packages

Recipe: Autumn salad with ice cream

Many of our guests have asked us for the recipes of our cuisine. Most are secret, of course! But this one we offer you with pleasure: an autumn salad with ice cream, quite trendy.
Recipe for 4 people:

2 red grapefruits
4 heads of radicchio
100 grams of feta cheese
20g pine nuts, toastedt
4 small scoops of grapefruit icecream
1 tray of cress
1 tablespoon of pomegranate seeds
Freshly grounded pepper
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
60 ml of maple syrup or honey
2-3 tablespoons of olive oil

First you will need to make the dressing. Cut wedges of grapefruit between membranes out with a sharp knife. Then squeeze the juice from the grapefruit until you have 100ml. Put in a saucepan with lemon juice, maple syrup or honey and a pinch of salt. Cook on low heat until syrup and leave it to cool down. Whisk 2 tablespoons of olive oil through the syrup. Season with salt and pepper.
Detach the radicchio leaves, add some dressing. Divide in star shapes on 4 plates. Put grapefruit segments on top. Crumble feta cheese over it and sprinkle with pine nuts and pomegranate. Sprinkle with cress and drizzle remaining dressing over it and add a little freshly grounded pepper. Put a small scoop of grapefruit ice in the middle and serve immediately.

Great Chalet; great skiing

I visited this beautiful Chalet in februari 2013. Had a great time. Pieter and Therese, the owners, are very helpful to make your holiday a success. The chalet is near the Vaujany gondola to the Alpe d’Huez ski area. And in the evenings a very good meal and bed. Just TOP! Johan V

Great stay

Really nice place – the hosts were fantastic. The evening meals were excellent as was the breakfast. Room was good with a balcony and spotlessly clean. Definitely recommended. Janet

The perfect place to Ski and relax

It was the second time that we drove up from Lyon where we live to go skiing in our favorite ski resort Alpe d’Huez. The slopes are perfect for demanding skiers and beginners alike. The equipment to transport the skiers are super, even heated seats when it is really cold and good connections throughout this vast ski area. After an intensive day skiing to arrive at Sol Neige is an joyfull experience. The tea is ready with home made cakes ,thereafter a good beer and thereafter Pieter and Therese have prepared a 4 course meal where the also have some preselected bottles of wine to wash it down. Thereafter you role into bed in a fully countryside environment. No car sound to be heard. Perfect nothing more to add ENJOY Erik Postma

Fantastic!

We stayed at Solneige in early October and had a wonderful time. The setting of the Chalet is remarkable, high up in the Alps. It is very peaceful and quiet. There are plenty of outdoor activities to take advantage of the location. Pieter and Therese were very hospitable and helpful in providing cycling and hiking tips including lending me an invaluable map to assist with my hike. The rooms are spacious and each have their own separate bathrooms. The dinner we had on our arrival night was delicious as was the breakfast and packed lunch. I would recommend staying at Solneige and our only regret was that we did not stay longer. Note we had a hire car, having travelled from Australia, and it made travelling around this region possible. Stayed October 2013, travelled as a couple Eleanor K.

Chalet-tastic!

We have just returned from the most amazing family skiing holiday and I don’t know whether I should shout from the rooftops how wonderful the Chalet Solneige is or keep it selfishly really really quiet and share this gem with only a select few 😉 But I suppose it’s only polite to share… From our first contacts with Pieter and Therese over email they were so helpful and warm. They helped and advised regarding ski schools, ski hire, lift passes etc… nothing was too much trouble. And so it continued! From the moment we arrived – tired after a 9 + hour drive from Calais – it was like arriving at a friend’s house not a guest house. We felt entirely welcome. We were 2 families with 3 children ages 6,8 and 10. The children were made to feel as welcome as we were. They were offered their evening meals earlier than adults if we wanted (we chose this as 8 pm bit late for our lot) and they got their own child friendly and fun 3 course meal. The food was simply delicious. Breakfast included croissants, breads, cereals, cheeses, hams, jams, eggs, coffee, tea, juice – certainly more than enough to get onto the slopes with. Upon return at the chalet we were welcomed with delicious cakes and tea. Evening meals were 4 course and exquisite. Firm favourite was Pieter’s nightly cheese stories that accompanied the cheese course 🙂 One night was a pizza night which was very popular and one night we got to explore the restaurants of Vaujany. Again Pieter and Therese were on hand to advise and they helped us book a table. Accommodation was spotlessly clean and bright and spacious with balconies with a great view. We slept very well. The hot tub was very popular at the end of the day to relieve aching muscles. Skiiing: The Chalet is situated a 5 minute drive or bus ride from the base station of Vaujany. I was concerned about not being ski in ski out but needn’t have worried. We took the free shuttle bus daily and it was prompt and not crowded. Pieter and Therese helped to organise ski hire at the most convenient hire shop where you can leave skis boots etc in a locker so as to not have to schlepp them back to the chalet – so convenient! The gondolas from Vaujany then take you up to various ski regions (including where ski school is) and you have the choice of a local lift pass or broader lift pass that includes Alpe D’Huez. For us with kids in ski school the local pass was more than enough and despite being an experienced skier I didn’t get bored – some nice reds and a few blacks too. The slopes were surprisingly quiet for half term with hardly any lift queues. In summary – I wouldn’t look any further for our next skiing holiday! Perfect hosts, perfect accommodation, perfect food, breathtaking scenery and amazing skiing too. What more could you ask for !!?? Go go go – that’s our recommendation! Cat Arthurs

Sensational Solneige

A beautiful chalet with welcoming, knowledgeable hosts combined with exceptional food made our week here the highlight of our skiing vacation. Pieter & Therese went out of their way helping us with planning, transport, ski hire, ticketing etc. to make for a stress free holiday, even to the extent of helping arrange cycle hire in the middle of winter to ride Alpe d’Huez for a memorable 50th birthday event! We were recommended to Chalet Solneige by friends & our high expectations were certainly exceeded. Thank you both & we look forwarded to returning soon to experience the region in a different season. (…and to eat more delicious cheese!) Lee Hines

All around charming

Pieter and Therese have created a nice and cozy chalet for their guests and are wonderful hosts, as well as their daughters. The apt was very comfortable ( 3 sleep and 2 bathrooms) with nice beds and mountain views, even from the (upstairs) bathroom! Vaujany ski and mountain tops are just wonderful. We spent Christmas there with the children and although we didn’t know the other guests, the familiar atmosphere was perfect, the food was really great and served on a beautiful table. Another top points were the jacuzzi in the garden, also with incredible view, and the snow that gave the whole place a magic touch! We highly recommend Chalet Solneige! Rosea from Amsterdam

Relaxing stay in Vaujany

I planned a ski trip to Alpe d huez/ Vaujany and picked Chalet Solneige because of the 3 bedrooms the chalet offered in the appartment in the top floor of the chalet . The appartment was great 3 cosy bedrooms and 2 bathrooms the first 2 rooms are a double bed in 1st then 2 single beds in second room then upstairs in the gods there is another 2 single bed room with adjoining bathroom the chalet has a very relaxed feel and the owners Therese and Pieter are so helpful and kind with loads of good advice about the local area .the location is about 4 mins drive from Vaujany and a car would be best to get about but there is a ski bus that passes also and takes you up to the village the main lift in Vaujany takes you up in 2 stages to Alpe d Huez and is a quick and crowd free way to get high into Alpe d Huez we had a fantastic weeks weather 2 days of snow then 4 days pure blue skies and non stop sunshine great areas to ski and board areas for all abiities from flowing green runs in Alpe d Huez perfect for begginers ,blue runs in Montfrais and Auris and blacks from Pic Blanc ! we loved the atmosphere in la folie douce bar at the top of marrmotes 1 lift great après bar brilliant music We had a night out ice skating in Vaujany great fun in a brand new ice rink We loved the appartment and the relaxed environment all agreed 10 out of 10 we had a carlsberg ski holiday in the Solneige ! My thanks to Therese and Pieter for a great weeks stay Joe A from Liverpool

Lovely and Charming

By entering the gardenddoor we jumped into a very idyllic an charming area. The garden and the Chalet Solneige are very good places for having a calm holiday. Our room was clean and with enough place for all our stuff. The familary atmosphere and the comfort which is offered from Pieter and Therese is extraordinary but not to close. Indivudual breakfast and the diner which is presented by Claudia or Therese herself are very delicious. It is a very stressless place for spending relaxing holidays for bikers, motorcylists and for skiing also. From Solneige you can reach all great Cols very close and enjoy the fascinating world of French Grandes Alpes. Congratulation Therese and Peter and their Team. Kai and Dietmar…

Clos Giraud lift has been renewed

After the renewal of the Montfrais lift, the Clos Giraud lift has now also been updated.
The Clos Giraud lift between Montfrais and Alpette is now a so-called télémixte;
alternating chairs and gondolas. The lift has been extended and now starts at
Montfrais, and is much faster than the old lift.

Snow shovelling for dummies

Hurray! It is snowing. It has been snowing the whole day!! Large snowflakes, small snowflakes, and large ones again. Within a single hour the whole world turned white, within two hours you can only see the ‘pillows’ in the garden, where the shrubs used to stand. It is cosy in the big salon, the bonfire is lit, apéro is on the table, and delicious smells rise from the kitchen…
A novice innkeeper in the Alps might think: fine, that’s allright, just let it snow. But the next morning the amount of snow if so high, that shovelling snow is going to be a difficult job. You get up early and see that there is a meter of snow, grab the shovel and get to work. Oops! After half an hour, it seems that your snow management did not work out. You shovelled the snow to a spot that needs to be cleared later. Pfff. And after another 30 minutes you start to feel your shoulder. The left one. And the right one. And your elbows, both. And your back… and the day hasn’t even started yet! A week later it appears you have a tennis elbow, and a dislocated shoulder. The snow that wasn’t cleared in time became thick and dense. A big layer of snow became ice. Grrrr. And the winter season is only halfway.
No, how about the experienced innkeeper. The first thing they do is listening. Ah… there is the snowplowing machine. Let’s have a chat with the guys. If they could clear the parking for us. Yes, the private parking. Yes, and how about a cup of coffee or something stronger later? Fine, merci! And should it snow for another hour, leaving another 30 cm of snow, you ask your guests: “Guys, take a look! What a beautiful amount of snow! Who likes to help me with some snow shovelling? I have got four shovels here…”

“Highly recommend”

Would recommend very highly for any visit wether it be a romantic weekend away, skiing holiday or like us a cycling holiday. The owners where fantastic, they catered to all your needs. The chalet is beautiful, and the rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The grounds are wonderful with plenty of different areas to sit and relax and even a hot tube to get rid of all the aches and pains from riding. The breakfasts that where served was very good and you do not leave feeling hungry and the evening meal was faultless every dish was well cooked, full of flavour and well presented. Great value for money. Will good back and stay. Christopher

Greatest chalet in Alpe d’Huez area!

With a team of 16 skiiers, finding a suitable chalet was not easy this winter, But we did – and what a positive surprice! Pieter and Therese runs a very cosy and nice accommodation serving great breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner! The service was extreamly good and better hosts you cannot find! We even got help with getting ski-passes and a really good discount at the skishop nearby. The rooms are nice, tidy and outside there is a jacuzzi…a warm evening bath looking at the snowclad mountains is just great! The view from the chalet balcony was also stunning! Getting to the Vaujany gondola is easy as the ski-bus stops 40 meters from the chalet. I can only give Solniege a GOLD medal with honour – this is THE place to stay at! Benny Norling, Sweden Solneige
