Chalet-tastic!

We have just returned from the most amazing family skiing holiday and I don’t know whether I should shout from the rooftops how wonderful the Chalet Solneige is or keep it selfishly really really quiet and share this gem with only a select few 😉 But I suppose it’s only polite to share… From our first contacts with Pieter and Therese over email they were so helpful and warm. They helped and advised regarding ski schools, ski hire, lift passes etc… nothing was too much trouble. And so it continued! From the moment we arrived – tired after a 9 + hour drive from Calais – it was like arriving at a friend’s house not a guest house. We felt entirely welcome. We were 2 families with 3 children ages 6,8 and 10. The children were made to feel as welcome as we were. They were offered their evening meals earlier than adults if we wanted (we chose this as 8 pm bit late for our lot) and they got their own child friendly and fun 3 course meal. The food was simply delicious. Breakfast included croissants, breads, cereals, cheeses, hams, jams, eggs, coffee, tea, juice – certainly more than enough to get onto the slopes with. Upon return at the chalet we were welcomed with delicious cakes and tea. Evening meals were 4 course and exquisite. Firm favourite was Pieter’s nightly cheese stories that accompanied the cheese course 🙂 One night was a pizza night which was very popular and one night we got to explore the restaurants of Vaujany. Again Pieter and Therese were on hand to advise and they helped us book a table. Accommodation was spotlessly clean and bright and spacious with balconies with a great view. We slept very well. The hot tub was very popular at the end of the day to relieve aching muscles. Skiiing: The Chalet is situated a 5 minute drive or bus ride from the base station of Vaujany. I was concerned about not being ski in ski out but needn’t have worried. We took the free shuttle bus daily and it was prompt and not crowded. Pieter and Therese helped to organise ski hire at the most convenient hire shop where you can leave skis boots etc in a locker so as to not have to schlepp them back to the chalet – so convenient! The gondolas from Vaujany then take you up to various ski regions (including where ski school is) and you have the choice of a local lift pass or broader lift pass that includes Alpe D’Huez. For us with kids in ski school the local pass was more than enough and despite being an experienced skier I didn’t get bored – some nice reds and a few blacks too. The slopes were surprisingly quiet for half term with hardly any lift queues. In summary – I wouldn’t look any further for our next skiing holiday! Perfect hosts, perfect accommodation, perfect food, breathtaking scenery and amazing skiing too. What more could you ask for !!?? Go go go – that’s our recommendation! Cat Arthurs
